Where to Elope in Big Sur
Big Sur offers countless breathtaking locations for your elopement. Whether you prefer the dramatic cliffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean, the serene redwood groves, or the secluded beaches, each spot carries its unique charm. Embrace the wild spirit of Big Sur by choosing a location that resonates with your love story. Here are the top three of some of my favorite locations, Big Sur Lodge, Garrapata State Park, Ventura Big Sur
1: Big Sur Lodge is nestled in Redwoods you have the option of a cozy cabin or roughing it out in wilderness. Surrounded by nature it can be breathtaking but a little public with hikers walking through. And with a quick drive its chasing the ocean coast for golden hour shots.
2: Garrapata State Park is a stunning beach spot with breathtaking ocean views surrounded by Redwoods. If you’re willing to go on a little hike it’s worth it.
3: Ventura Big Sur is a beautiful luxurious resort in Big Sur perfect for couples looking for a hip glamming experience or a high end room with an ocean view to get ready in. And with a simple walk you can get lost in the Redwoods.
How to Elope in Big Sur: Permits and Regulations
Before you pick your location and exchange vows in nature’s cathedral, familiarize yourself with the local regulations. Permits might be necessary for certain locations, ensuring that your ceremony respects the environment and other visitors. Research the requirements and obtain the necessary permits to make your elopement experience seamless and respectful of the surroundings.
To apply for a permit at one of the Big Sur State Parks, contact the Special Event Permit Office at BigSurEvents@parks.ca.gov or call 831-667-0507 … If you are applying for a permit at Garrapata State Park, instead contact firstname.lastname@example.org
Choose the Perfect Time
Timing is everything when it comes to eloping in Big Sur. Consider the season and the weather, aiming for a day when the elements align in your favor. Many couples prefer the golden hues of fall or the mild temperatures of spring (Peak Season). Please also be weary of California’s Wildfire season, typically between late summer and fall. Additionally, plan your ceremony around the sunset for a magical ambiance, as the sun dips below the horizon, casting a warm glow over the rugged cliffs.
Embrace the Afterglow
After you’ve exchanged vows and the echoes of your promises have dissipated into the sea breeze, take the time to savor the moment. Arrange for a private picnic on the beach or a cliffside toast with champagne. Let the reality of your union sink in as you bask in the afterglow of your Big Sur elopement.
